Principalโ€™s Message

Holy Spirit Catholic College LakembaWelcome to Holy Spirit Catholic College, an inclusive faith community located in Lakemba, a southwestern suburb of Sydney. Everyone at the college is inspired by the Holy Spirit to work towards creating a future based on respect for self and the dignity of others.

No matter the circumstances, students at Holy Spirit will be encouraged to achieve to the best of their ability using the gifts which they have been given by God.

We embrace differences in academic ability by offering those who are academically gifted access to the Newman Selective Gifted Education Program and students with learning difficulties or disabilities, the support of our exceptional Diverse Learning Needs department.

Our college strives to create opportunities in which all experience success and achieve their potential, whether it be through showcasing their gifts and talents in the creative and performing arts, in our strong sporting offerings, or in areas such as vocational education or public speaking.

What we wish for our students by the end of their time here, is that they are empowered by the teachings and knowledge they have accrued through personalised learning and dynamic teaching, to foster inclusivity and respect in the community in their own way.

My hope is that this website will offer you a glimpse of our community at Holy Spirit, so that you may get a sense of all that is on offer at the college. The best way, however, to understand our faith community is to visit and experience the active prayer and liturgical life, the curriculum offerings, and the many co-curricular opportunities. If you would like to meet me and see all that Holy Spirit has to offer, please feel free to call the college office and arrange an appointment.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Kevin Griffiths
Principal

History
Holy Spirit Catholic College is a co-educational Catholic systemic school located in Lakemba, NSW. The college commenced in 1999, from the amalgamation of two schools, St Johnโ€™s College and MacKillop Girls.ย

The college crest is founded in the Year of the Holy Spirit. It depicts the cross of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, with the dove representing the Holy Spirit. The depiction of the Holy Spirit emerging from the cross embodies the message of Pentecost where โ€œthe Holy Spirit came down on allโ€ (Acts 10:44)ย  to spread the good news to all.

The Holy Spirit empowers and inspires the lives of all in the college community.

Charism
Veni Sancte Spiritus โ€“ Come, Holy Spirit!

The motto of the College calls on the Holy Spirit to come into our community and ourselves and renew us in the way it did at the Pentecost event. Inspired by the Pentecost Story, the gifts, and the fruits of the Spirit, the community of the Holy Spirit is a thriving faith community that embraces diversity, regards highly the values of responsibility and respect, and develops a sense of inquisitiveness, aspiration, and resilience in each other.

In our history Holy Spirit Catholic College owes much to the charisms of both the Sisters of St Joseph and the Lasallian Brothers. Both of these Orders were founded by people, a century apart and on different sides of the world, to give those who otherwise could not, have an education. And for both St Mary of the Cross and St John Baptist, education was not only academic but also in terms of the Christian faith. It was about teaching the children how to live and continue the mission of Christ. Living out the Christian message and the gospel values calls for education in terms of advocacy and social justice; in the words of St Mary of the Cross, never see a need without something about it.ย ย

Today the college continues to have strong ties with both the Josephites and the Lasallians and is proud to continue the charism, work, and vision of both these important.
