Our Catholic Faith and the Strength of Two Inspirational Women

During the last couple of weeks we celebrated the feast day of our first Australian Saint, Mary MacKillop. Mary, along with Parish Priest Julian Tenison Woods established the order of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart as well as establishing the first Catholic school in the area of Penola, South Australia. Mary’s
faith, strength and astuteness allowed her to educate children without government funding while providing additional support for the poor and disadvantaged. Mary will forever be known as a significant religious educator but more importantly she became a social reformer, challenging social norms and advocating for those people who could not do this for themselves.
