“Success breeds success”
may be a famous quote, but at Holy Spirit Lakemba, it is most definitely true. “And the celebration of our achievements as a community is providing our younger students with the confidence that they too can have a go and succeed”, comments Principal Kevin Griffiths.
As the entire Holy Spirit community gathered to recognise the success of the Class of 2024, Charles Milazzo, Leader of Curriculum, said “The HSC is not just about achieving first in subject or an amazing ATAR or even getting into a certain university, it’s about extending yourself, being the best that you can be, working together as a cohort and making the most of all the opportunities that are presented to you.”
And this is exactly what the Class of 2024 did. Helen Tran, College Dux, achieved an ATAR of 98.70 and shared with the community her mentality, which she says helped her during her final year of study at Holy Spirit. “Being consistent, belief in yourself, striving to improve yourself and having a curious mind” were key to her success Helen claims. Helen, who is now studying at the University of Sydney to study Pharmacy and Management voiced her appreciation of all the teachers who supported the cohort on their path to the HSC; “they were always present, always available, they were the glue that held us together”, she comments.
The College was also recognised by Sydney Catholic Schools for students who achieved first in subject across the Sydney diocese consisting of 33 high schools. Stephen Wang was first in Mathematics Extension 2 and is now studying Actuarial Studies at the University of New South Wales, Helen Tran was first in Biology and Ofa Kaufusi was first in Hospitality Food and Beverage.
Mr Griffiths said, “I am an extremely proud Principal. Holy Spirit Lakemba provides our students a very wide range of subjects, including high end subjects such as mathematics Extension 1 and 2, allowing students to follow their passion and progress in their chosen tertiary education path.” Mr Griffiths continues, “everything we do here at the College is about the students – we work together each and every day to instil in our students a love of learning, self confidence and resilience that they can take with them into their future.”

Holy Spirit Lakemba will be opening a new building later this year which will include a new Wellbeing Hub, student study areas and parent services. This new building will supplement the already newly refurbished facilities around the College including grassed areas where students can play soccer, rugby and many other sports.
The College will open its doors for the annual Open Day from 10am on March 22 , accepting enrolments for 2026 and 2027. You can register for our open day via the College website and everyone is warmly welcomed to experience our authentic hospitality as we demonstrate how we empower success for every student.
